Intentional Learning

Get in touch

We are passionate about lifelong learning and love how much of an impact learning can have on our lives, relationships, career, confidence and ultimately success and happiness.

We know from experience and what we know of the future that many of us will reskill, change direction or path in our professional lives and have to be able to diversify or pivot during our careers.

Learning itself is a skill. Helping people to unlock the mindset and skills to develop their learning is as important to us as delivering the content and facilitating discussions, workshops and programmes. Learning skills can boost personal and professional development and deliver a competitive edge for your business.

Intentional learners view learning as a mode and mindset all the time rather than a separate stream of work or extra effort. They develop and grow from every experience, conversation, meeting and piece of work or objective, everything they do. You are probably doing some of this already and here’s some tips from a recent McKinsey article we read with interest as it aligns with some of the work we have been doing recently.

“Each of us can become an intentional learner. There are two critical mindsets (or things you need to believe) and five core practices (or behaviour that collectively reorients you toward learning in everything you do). It’s not as hard as it sounds; in fact, you’re probably doing some of these already.”

Adopt a Growth Mindset – always with the view that you can change, you can improve, there are solutions and opportunities to develop and create something better. Nothing is perfect, failures and mistakes help us learn and develop further, we embrace the process and find joy in it.

A Curious Mind – We recently delivered a workshop on a Curious Mindset, exploring why having a curious mind can help you unlock your true potential, why developing a culture of curiosity in a team is important and looking at tips on how to develop curiosity. You learn more with a curious mindset and that feeds your ability to learn.

Here’s five best-practice behaviours to help intentional learners get the most out of their experiences:

  1. Set small, clear goals
  2. Remove distractions
  3. Actively seek actionable feedback
  4. Practice deliberately in areas you want to grow in
  5. Practice regular reflection

Take a look at this McKinsey & Company article for more research evidence and detailed information

Learning is an investment in ourselves, our teams and our business. It’s the most fundamental skill, giving you career advantage and you can improve and reset your intentional learning at any point.

We love the world of learning and helping to support the learning of you, your team members, and your leaders. Have a look at the range of support and funding that’s available to you and get in touch to chat through any business challenges you might have right now.  We look forward to helping you on your learning journey.
