It’s lonely at the top

We often hear the phrase ‘It's lonely at the top in leadership’ and we are wondering who King Charles turns to for a chat, advice, guidance, inspiration and motivation. Wonder if he talks to his dogs?!

Because while a leader is responsible for guiding their team, they are often the only one who shoulders the burden of decision making. In addition, their team may not always agree with the decisions that need to be made, creating a sense of isolation and loneliness. As a leader, it is important to find ways to connect with your team and to ask for their input to ensure that everyone is working together for the same goal, and this also enhances everyone’s sense of engagement.

The King typically talks to advisors, ministers, and other members of the court. He may also have close friends or family members with whom he can have conversations. No doubt he’s missing his Mum although not everyone has parents that they can talk to about leadership or business challenges.

The people who champion you at the top may be different from those who support you along the way. It’s important to build a strong support system of trusted friends, mentors, and colleagues that can offer advice, guidance, and encouragement.
