We have been chatting recently in the team about drawing a metaphorical connection between the changing seasons, specifically the leaves beginning to fall and the arrival of some first signs of winter, and the concept of using this time to take stock, off board tasks and objectives in a professional context and making space for new plans. This metaphor suggests a process of shedding old responsibilities and tasks to prepare for new beginnings, maybe a new role or new/updated objectives or vision, like how trees shed their leaves in the autumn to make room for new growth in the spring.
This metaphor emphasises the importance of letting go of outdated or unnecessary tasks, responsibilities, and objectives to create space for fresh ideas, projects, and goals. Just as trees release their leaves, businesses and individuals need to release tasks and objectives that no longer serve their purpose or align with their goals. Even empowering others in the process to learn and develop to be able to grow and thrive which can have such a positive impact.
If you are feeling stuck with some of this then consider using someone external to give you coaching, mentoring and consultancy time to help refine a plan. It’s a great time to start to develop a people plan for 2024 and ensure you have the right talent and succession plans in place for your business to reach it’s full potential. This is a great proactive approach to the process of change. Seeking guidance and support from external sources, such as a coach and mentor, can provide valuable insights and expertise to navigate this transition effectively. These sessions can offer advice on which tasks and objectives to let go of, and which ones to focus on to achieve the desired outcomes.
Here’s some ideas and things we can do to support you:
- We work with leaders to ensure they are empowering their teams and focussing on the work which will bring about business growth or improvement
- We work with your leadership team to refine and revisit your Vision and Values or start from scratch, ensuring you connect your people to them and embed them in your business
- We use models such as McKinsey’s 7Ss to review your business strategy and help you come up with a plan for the future or a culture web approach to review your culture and focus on shifting the culture or team building to develop high performing teams
- We work with you to develop a leadership behaviours framework to bring your values to life and create a culture of leadership across the business from leading yourself which will support your recruitment, performance management and talent and succession planning.
- We develop workshops and interviews to delve deeper into what measures or initiatives will support your employee engagement and retention
- We work to understand what’s underneath a lack of confidence so that we can support and develop confidence in leaders
So if you need to work on empowering leadership, vision and values, strategic planning, culture improvement, employee engagement and retention or confidence building give us a call before winter sets in and you start thinking about a whole new year!
Let us help you clear out the old so you can start with a clean slate before you tackle the new and really make next year the amazing year that’s in your vision.
