Last month Nicola and Sue talked about two of our values. This month Will and I are continuing with the topic, covering our other two – Vibrant and Creative and why we changed one of them and how we went about agreeing the new one. For those of you that know Michelle, you will know how close to her heart the value of ‘Fun’ was because when she set up Pro – D all those many moons ago, she knew she wanted to create a workplace for herself and others where they enjoyed what they did, looked forward to being there and that we delivered learning in a way that made people want to come back and importantly, learn well and remember what they learn! We all know that learning in a fun way brings just that…
We appreciate that fun means different things to different people so didn’t want to force this onto people especially in the training room, so we started to query whether there was a better way of expressing what we are all about. The behaviours we wanted to have, had to describe how we embrace and inspire our individuality, look after each other, build connections and encourage growth for all. It’s how we always bring our best selves with joy, passion, energy, and enthusiasm, together with a sprinkling of our own brand of magic (very Disney).
We then collectively challenged Michelle who found this really hard but in her usual style, she listened, challenged back and we then all worked collaboratively to find a value that retained all of the elements that are core to who we are and what we do but also highlighted the dynamic energy that our team brings
As soon as the word vibrant was mentioned, we all knew it was right.
And like many small businesses we are changing too, so this value more than any, had to really feel like us and the feelings visitors have, when they interact with us either through the work we do with them, over the phone or when they pop into the office.
So, what does Vibrant mean to us? It means.
We respect individual definitions of fun, playfulness, and joy, embracing your own and everyone’s unique vibrancy.
We take responsibility for our wellbeing, knowing and using the strategies that work for us.
We approach everything we do with enthusiasm, passion, and energy appropriate for the environment we’re in.
We get involved and engage in team activities and social opportunities.
We look for the opportunities and solutions, stay positive and see the big picture.
And we have each other’s and our clients’ backs, always be there for each other, be kind and genuinely care
Since that day, we have embedded it in our team as a core value and from that we have focused on our team wellbeing to ensure we retain the vibrancy we all bring, began to work more flexibly where possible to ensure a good life/work balance and be at our best for our clients
This was such an interesting process to go through as a team. We often see it with our clients when we support them to create values or to embed their existing ones. This is a great reminder how important values are to the culture of the business. They are not just words on the website but living and breathing behaviours that directly influence what it is like to work somewhere.
Michelle is happy. The team are happy. As we grow, and new people join the business, we are confident that we will retain the core priorities that the business was built on and that define what we’re all about
If you want a culture change or culture boost, come and talk to us about our Leadership Behaviours Frameworks or call us on 01904 628838. We have supported many businesses to implement this and it’s a hugely satisfying and impactful project to do within a business.
Remember to look at our next blog from Will to hear about our fourth value – creative.
