As we move into 2026 with a clearer understanding of our strengths, values and the positive impact we made in 2025, the next step is to think about how we bring our best selves into our teams. When individuals feel valued, energised and able to be themselves at work, teams become more resilient, connected and capable of achieving outstanding results.
In our first January blog, we explored the key elements that help teams thrive – particularly during challenging times and share practical insights for leaders who want to build supportive, high-performing teams in 2026. If you’re ready to turn reflection into action and create an environment where your team can truly thrive, read on and get in touch with us to explore how Pro-Development can support you through tailored leadership development and team-building programmes.
We hear the same thing every year – “New Year – New You!” But let’s be honest we live in a commercial world and a lot of this comes from the marketing teams desperate for us to buy their products. It can be a seductive idea, transforming yourself into someone special, someone different, or someone perfect but I think it leaves an unpleasant undercurrent of you’re just not good enough as you are. Buy our product, solution or service and the magic will be done! But what if we take a break from this and change the narrative.
Reflect and celebrate
As the year comes to an end it is a good time for reflection and, in this country, it’s one of the few times when most people take time off from work at the same time. For most of us we get a break from the emails and communications and get space and valuable time to think. Let’s use this time to celebrate who we are, what we have done and how we feel we made a difference in 2025. Don’t rush into goal setting and planning for 2026. And don’t be led to believe you’re not enough! Let’s just make some time to learn from the positive experiences we had this year.
Focus on the positive
In many of the programmes and coaching sessions I have delivered I have talked to people about managing their mental energy. Life is busy and work environments seem to become ever more demanding and hectic. It’s important to feel fulfilled at work and enjoy the work we do. It’s important to nurture your mental energy! For that reason, I encourage people to focus on what went well. Recharge your batteries with those memories and explore what made them good.
What went well in 2025?
I love my job and looking back over the year I have worked with some amazing organisations and individuals. There are a number of pieces of work that I could pick out and focus on as highlights. Perhaps there were lots of different reasons contributing but at this time of year I like to try and look at my contribution. Each example can tell me something about my preferences, strengths and values. Having a clear view of these things will enable me to increase my self-awareness, a key aspect of emotional intelligence and help me make good decisions going forward.
What positive attributes did you bring to each of your highlights in 2025?
So now it’s your turn. Take a look back at your year. What has gone well and how did you contribute to the great things you experienced? You might need some help with this is if you have been programmed to always look for the faults in yourself and areas where you need to improve. Perhaps you need to work thought this with a good conversation partner or perhaps the following questions may help you self reflect:-
- How have I had a positive impact on my team or organisation in 2025?
- What tasks and projects went well and what strengths did I use to complete them?
- What aspects of my work have energised me most and how do they align with my strengths?
- When colleagues asked for my help what sort of things did they ask for?
- What accomplishments made me feel proud and what personal attributes did I bring to them?
Don’t worry if this a new approach for you and you find this really difficult. Many of us are so negatively programmed that we find it hard to overcome many self-limiting beliefs. Why not try our free resources to help with this (Self-limiting Beliefs———(link)
Once you have taken time to reflect on the year, and everything you have achieved, you could even take the time to summarise your thoughts in a Positive Review describing who have become. This is mine for 2025:-
I am an experienced development professional who likes to help other people thrive at work. I like to work with diverse people who bring lots of different experiences and approaches to the party – people I can learn from and create new and unique experiences with. I like to feel energised and creative in my work and I like to work with intelligent enthusiastic people. This year I have been able to be myself and I am proud of that.
Be more of YOU in 2026
So my advice to everyone is don’t strive to be a new you! Once you have reflected and clearly identified the strengths, values and preferences you brought to 2025 you can move into 2026 looking for more opportunities to excel at being You! Talk with colleagues about what you are looking forward to and what you want to bring. Spread the positive energy and encourage them to join you in saying no to searching for a “new you.”
Thankfully, I know I am encouraged to truly be myself in my role here at Pro-Development. Everything we do is designed to enable people to figure out how they can be the best versions of themselves and thrive at work. Working closely with people during our longer-term leadership programmes it’s a privilege to provide the positive learning environments in which people discover their unique personal strengths and how to focus on what they are good at. They also learn how to bring that positive and empowering approach back to the workplace to ensure that the people in their teams are encouraged to find their best selves too and create an engaged and energised workplace in which everyone can thrive.
If you want your people to bring their best selves to work in 2026, it can’t be left to chance. It needs the right environment, the right conversations, and leaders who know how to build confidence, trust and momentum in their teams.
That’s where we come in.
Businesses work with Pro-Development because we don’t do “one size fits all”. We take time to understand your culture, your pressures and what success looks like for you, then create development and team-building that is practical, grounded and genuinely makes a difference. Whether it’s an open course or a bespoke programme, we help you strengthen leadership, improve communication, boost engagement and create teams that perform well because people feel valued and supported.
If you want 2026 to be a year where your people feel energised, your leaders feel equipped, and your teams thrive together, we’d love to help.
