Spring is springing - it’s a time of year for new growth and Easter reminds us that it’s a time for new life! In the work place we have the chance every time we employ a new team member to have our own new beginnings . But how do we maximise that opportunity and ensure that the person we are bringing into our team is the right fit for us?
Most of us have spent time and energy developing our organisational values; we frame them and put them on the wall and they look great, but are our values integral to our recruitment process? Are we setting ourselves up well for new beginnings? Recruiting against values means placing a strong emphasis on finding the right person who is aligned to your organisation’s core values and beliefs.
Values represent the core beliefs and principles that guide an organisation’s culture, behaviour, and decision-making. They provide a foundation for the company’s mission and vision, and they define the ethical and moral standards for the organisation. Here are some reasons why its beneficial to recruit against values:
Cultural fit
When you hire someone who is aligned to your organisation’s values, they are more likely to fit in with the company culture. This can lead to better teamwork, communication, engagement and productivity.
Lower turnover
Employees who are aligned to the values of your organisation are more likely to stay with the company for the long term. This reduces the costs and disruption of turnover and can lead to a more stable, happy and engaged workforce.
Higher engagement and job satisfaction
Employees who feel aligned with your organisation’s values are more likely to be engaged in their work and feel satisfied with their job. This can lead to higher levels of productivity and better overall performance.
Reputation
Companies that prioritise values-based recruiting can build a reputation as an employer of choice for candidates who share those values. This can help attract top talent and strengthen the organisation’s brand.
Ethics and compliance
Hiring individuals who are aligned to your organisation’s values can help ensure that employees are more likely to behave ethically and comply with company policies and procedures. This can reduce the risk of misconduct and improve the company’s overall reputation and legal standing.
Recruiting against values can help ensure that our new team members have the best possible new beginnings because they make a great start due to their alignment with the organisation’s culture and values and will help them to become an engaged, happy and productive employee.
Don’t forget like all new beginnings you need to spend time nurturing and supporting them until they are established. Have a read of next week’s blog which shares some great ideas on induction.
And as a final tip, if you ensure that your leadership behavioural framework is closely linked to your organisation’s values, they will guide the actions and decisions of team members and leaders within the organisation. Which in turn helps to build a strong culture that supports the achievement of the company’s mission and vision.
So, what are you waiting for? If you need any help or support developing either your organisation’s values or a leadership behavioural framework then please get in touch as our amazing team here would be more than happy to help.
